(DailyVantage.com) – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who has been on a tour promoting his new book, “The Courage to Be Free”, delivered an animated speech in California on Sunday.
DeSantis, who is widely expected to launch a 2024 bid some time soon, went after left-wing politicians during his speech, saying “I know you’ve got a lot of problems out here, but your governor is very concerned about what we are doing in Florida…so I figured I had to come by.” This was just one of many jabs aimed at California Governor Gavin Newsom.
DeSantis has repeatedly claimed that Florida is a state to aspire to. DeSantis said that in Florida “we approach things differently”.
DeSantis also claimed that there is a “great American exodus” out of liberal states like California and New York.
Newsom, however, promptly fired back at DeSantis claiming that “California residents are safer, healthier, and more prosperous than those unfortunate enough to have you as their governor.” Newsom then went on to bring up recent Republican primary polling that shows former President Trump with a considerable lead.
Newsom has made it a habit to attack Republican governors. Just a few days ago, Newsom went after Tennessee Governor Bill Lee for his focus on restricting drag shows in the state. In a tweet, Newsom wrote “Tennessee has the 8th highest murder rate in the nation. It ranks 44th among states for health outcomes. And this is what the governor is focused on.”
In June of 2022, Newsom joined Trump’s alternative social media platform, Truth Social, with the intention of “calling out Republican lies.” Though Newsom is not very active on the app, he posted one week ago comparing blue state economic activity with that of red states. He prefaced it with “Here are some facts that Fox and the GOP doesn’t want you to know.”
Newsom is rumored to be eyeing the presidency himself.
