Ron DeSantis GOES THERE – Unleashes Over Ukraine!

(DailyVantage.com) – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who has been rather quiet about foreign affairs issues, went on Fox & Friends on Monday to opine on the war in Ukraine.

DeSantis, who is yet to officially announce a bid for president in 2024, echoed some rather predictable Trumpian talking points on aid to Ukraine. Under the Biden administration, DeSantis said, the U.S. government is providing Ukraine with a “blank check”.

DeSantis went on to criticize Biden for lacking a strategic vision abroad. He expressed that he doesn’t think “it’s in our interest to be getting into a proxy war with China getting involved over things like borderlands in Crimea.”

It appears that DeSantis is taking an “America First” position on foreign policy regarding Ukrainian aid.

The GOP’s approach to foreign policy, ever since the Trump-era, has been incredibly divisive. Trump, harkening back to Pat Buchanan, has taken a rather non-interventionist, or even, semi-isolationist approach to foreign affairs. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), who has endorsed Trump for president in 2024, differs dramatically with the populist wing of the party. The South Carolina Senator has spoken, time and again, on why we should be taking a bigger role in the Ukrainian conflict.

Graham, on Monday, lauded President Biden for his unannounced trip to Ukraine saying that it was “the right signal to send at the right time”. Graham also praised Vice President Kamala Harris for her comments against Russia.

While this fissure on the right is unlikely to resolve anytime soon, Governor DeSantis has made it clear that he is on the Trumpian non-interventionist side. This may, in fact, work to his advantage if he wishes to court Trump voters.

So far, though, DeSantis has been quite evasive when questioned about his 2024 ambitions. Instead, his focus seems to be on promoting his new book, “The Courage To Be Free”, and governing his great state of Florida.
