Ron DeSantis Intervenes After Federal Government Blocks Aid

( – In January, two tornadoes touched down in Florida’s Charlotte and Lee Counties, an EF-1 and EF-2, respectively. In the wake of the damage, the state applied for FEMA assistance to help affected citizens get back on their feet. On February 15, FEMA notified Florida state officials of its denial. They plan to appeal the decision, but Governor Ron DeSantis (R) isn’t making his citizens wait that long. He’s taking action now to help them.

On Tuesday, February 22, DeSantis announced the creation of a donation portal, where people can both donate money to those who need help or apply for help if they need it as one of the impacted residents of the areas. All donations are tax-deductible.

According to Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) Director Kevin Guthrie, the agency is joining forces with the Charlotte Community Foundation to help ensure donations get to disaster survivors.

Per FEMA’s denial, the impact wasn’t significant enough to demand federal aid, but DeSantis is persisting in the matter. This situation just goes to show no matter what his constituents need, whether it’s a partner in the war on CRT and draconian mandates or assistance to get back on their feet after a natural disaster, DeSantis is there to help them.
