Shinzo Abe, Japanese Ex-Prime Minister, Assassinated During Speech

World Leader Killed – It Was Murder!

(DailyVantage.com) – Being a politician comes with risks, which is why they often travel with a security detail. Unfortunately for one Japanese conservative, it wasn’t enough. An assassin recently shot former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, the longest-running PM in Japan’s history, as he gave a speech.

On Thursday, July 7, Abe spoke in the western Japanese city of Nara when a gunman reportedly fired two shots into his back. Emergency personnel took him to the hospital shortly after, where he reportedly died from his injuries several hours later.

Authorities wrestled the suspect, 41-year-old Tetsuya Yamagami, to the ground immediately after he fired on Abe. The suspect confessed to shooting the former prime minister, saying he planned to kill him because of Abe’s involvement in an unnamed organization. Authorities suspect he used a homemade gun to kill Abe because of the large smoke cloud the weapon emitted after firing. They also discovered potential explosives at his apartment. At the time of writing, Yamagami faced an attempted murder charge, though authorities would likely upgrade the offense following Abe’s death.

President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump both expressed shock and sadness at Abe’s murder. Biden ordered flags be flown at half-staff for three days to honor the former prime minister.
