(DailyVantage.com) – House Speaker Mike Johnson has issued a directive to all federal departments under the Biden administration to preserve and retain their records, signaling a shift in Republican oversight strategy as President-elect Donald Trump prepares to return to the White House. Johnson’s move, revealed in an exclusive obtained by Breitbart News, aims to ensure no records tied to the Biden administration’s policies and actions are destroyed. These records could serve as critical evidence for future investigations by Congress and the incoming administration.
The letters, sent to 18 federal departments, including Acting Labor Secretary Julie Su, underscore compliance with federal record-keeping laws such as the Federal Records Act. Johnson emphasized retaining documents related to high-profile issues like the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan, the ongoing border crisis, government censorship, and alleged weaponization of federal agencies against conservatives. He also called attention to the rise of antisemitism on college campuses, which he claimed was “enabled by leading Democrats”.
“As we begin preparation for a new Trump Administration and new Congress, we fully expect your cooperation in a smooth transition of power,” Johnson wrote, signaling a more structured Republican approach compared to the 2016 transition. Johnson and his leadership team, including House Majority Leader Steve Scalise and Majority Whip Tom Emmer, appear focused on laying the groundwork for aggressive oversight in 2025. A senior aide confirmed that letters were sent to all major Cabinet secretaries, ensuring no department is exempt from the mandate.
Johnson’s directive also revisits noncompliance issues with subpoenas issued during the current Congress. He accused the Biden administration of “largely declining to cooperate” with these oversight efforts and warned that committees could reissue subpoenas or take more stringent actions in the next term.
This approach highlights Republican plans to intensify investigations into the Biden administration’s actions while advancing Trump’s agenda. Johnson’s move is not only a call for transparency but also a warning that any destruction of records could lead to significant legal consequences. With Trump’s return to the Oval Office and a GOP majority in Congress, Republicans are poised to rigorously scrutinize Biden-era policies and decisions.
