(DailyVantage.com) – In a tragic incident in Bridgeport, Connecticut, police report that 6-year-old Jathan Escobar was beaten to death with a metal bat by his stepfather, 38-year-old Abdulrahim Sulaiman. The brutal attack occurred on September 25, when Sulaiman allegedly assaulted his wife and her children in their apartment. According to police, the child’s mother, who had only known Sulaiman for about a year and had been married to him for a few months, said her husband had been using PCP recently and had become violent.
Jathan was rushed to the hospital with severe brain injuries and was placed on life support, but tragically, he was pronounced dead on Wednesday due to the extent of his injuries. When police arrived at the scene, they found the boy in critical condition and administered CPR, but the injury to his head was so severe that brain matter was visible.
Sulaiman, who has a violent criminal history and was on probation at the time, was initially arrested and charged with attempted murder. Following the child’s death, the charges were elevated to murder with special circumstances. His bond, initially set at $1 million, was raised to $10 million.
Jathan’s family and community are devastated by the loss. “He was always so happy and he just enjoyed life altogether,” said Sasha Heron, the boy’s cousin. “No matter what was going on, he was always so happy with everybody.”
This heart-wrenching incident has shocked many, highlighting the dangers of domestic violence and substance abuse.
