Stevie Nicks Debuts Anthem Supporting Abortion Rights

(DailyVantage.com) – Stevie Nicks, the legendary Fleetwood Mac singer, has released a new pro-abortion anthem titled “The Lighthouse”, inspired by the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2022 decision overturning Roe v. Wade. At 76 years old, Nicks considers the song one of her most significant contributions to her career and cause, calling it an anthem for women and their rights.

In a statement to People magazine, Nicks explained the motivation behind the song: “It seemed like overnight, people were saying, ‘What can we, as a collective force, do about this… For me, it was to write a song.” She went on to say, “I have often said to myself, ‘This may be the most important thing I ever do.’ To stand up for the women of the United States and their daughters and granddaughters — and the men that love them.”

The singer, best known for hits like “Dreams” and “Rhiannon,” has been vocal about her own abortion experience in 1979. Reflecting on the Supreme Court’s ruling that returned abortion legislation to individual states, Nicks said, “I find it very sad, at 76 years old, I had to see Roe v. Wade taken away.”

According to Nicks, the song came to her unexpectedly, as she typically doesn’t write in the mornings. She recalled, “One morning I woke up… and all of a sudden went, ‘I have my scars, I have my scars,’ so I just grabbed my notebook, and I started writing the whole thing.” She described how the song emerged as a long-form poem, and within days, she had recorded it. Remarkably, the song’s final version features her original vocal recording, which she never re-recorded.

Nicks, like many others in the pro-abortion camp, sees access to abortion as an essential part of women’s healthcare. In her view, a safe and legal option for abortion is “absolutely necessary” for women. Her advocacy for abortion rights aligns with her long-standing belief in personal freedom and choice, particularly in matters concerning women’s bodies.

As part of her ongoing activism, Nicks will also perform as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live on October 12. Her song, “The Lighthouse,” is poised to resonate with those who share her concerns about the loss of federal abortion protections and her call to action for preserving women’s rights.
