STRANGE Case – YouTuber Sentenced For Intentionally Crashing Plane

( – In an effort to supposedly go viral and get more clicks and views, a YouTube “content creator” from California was sentenced to serve six months in prison for intentionally crashing an airplane in 2021.

Trevor Daniel Jacob, 30 years old, entered into a plea agreement with prosecutors and admitted to destruction as well as concealment of a tangible object with intent to obstruct a federal investigation.

Jacob, who is also a former Olympic snowboarder, took off on the airplane by himself, flying off from Santa Barbara County, California. Midway through the flight, which he recorded on video captured on multiple cameras he set up inside the plane, he claimed that he was experiencing a full loss of power. He then jumped out, a selfie stick in hand, and parachuted to safety. After landing on the ground, he hiked up to the Los Padres National Forest, which was where the plane crashed. He only told the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) about the crash two days after the incident.

Jacob then posted a video on YouTube with the title “I Crashed My Airplane,” which included a product promotion that Jacob would also have earned from. The video has since been taken down.

Authorities say that while Jacob eventually informed the NTSB about the crash and agreed to take investigators to the crash site, he not only repeatedly lied to investigators over the course of two months but also obstructed the federal investigation into the crash by carting off the remains of the plane and disposing of them.

In the sentencing memorandum, prosecutors said that Jacob “exercised exceptionally poor judgment” and most probably committed the crime to “generate social media and news coverage for himself and to obtain financial gain.” However, prosecutors said, Jacob’s “daredevil’ conduct cannot be tolerated.”

Along with the NTSB, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Office of Inspector General worked with the U.S. Attorney’s Office to investigate and prosecute Jacob.
