(DailyVantage.com) – On the evening of Tuesday, December 6, Houston first responders rushed to an emergency call at Senator Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) home in River Oaks around 8 p.m. While police were initially tight-lipped, it eventually came to light that emergency workers took one of Cruz’s daughters to the hospital with self-inflicted stab wounds. The senator has since spoken out about the ordeal but refrained from releasing any details.
According to TMZ, Cruz simply said that his daughter was “okay.” There are no further details about who made the phone call to the police or whether the senator was home at the time of the incident.

Cruz’s rep told ABC News it was a family matter and there were no serious injuries. It’s unclear whether the hospital released the girl.
The support for the Texas senator rolled in on social media after the news broke, with many offering their support and prayers. Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-TX) was among the first.
Anna and I send blessings and support to @tedcruz, his daughter and family. As the father of three young children, I hope folks will show respect and understanding for the family’s pain and privacy. Whatever your perspective, this is a time for grace not viciousness. https://t.co/d9qekkgLjQ
