(DailyVantage.com) – President Joe Biden, since taking office in 2021, has done little to secure the U.S.-Mexico border. In December of 2022, U.S. border agents encountered over 250,000 migrants attempting to cross the border. These numbers are record breaking.
With the President abdicating his duties to secure the border, Texans have decided to take matters into their own hands. On Sunday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott tweeted a video with the caption, “Texas is building our own border wall”. In the video, a crane is seen placing panels of wall along the border.
The tweet has gone viral, accruing over 146,000 likes in a matter of days.
Texas, which is a border state, has seen unprecedented numbers of illegal migrants flood in from Mexico. El Paso, in particular, has been inundated with migrants from Cuba and Nicaragua. This has made El Paso a hub of illegal migrant activity.
Abbott has not refrained from taking action in regards to the border in the past. Starting last year, the Texas Governor deployed the state National Guard to reign in the “invasion” at the southern border. He has even gone so far as to send “tank-like” vehicles to certain problem areas.
Biden, on the other hand, has not taken the issue nearly as seriously. In December of 2022, the President, when asked by a reporter why he hasn’t yet visited the border, answered “…there are more important things going on.”
While Biden has ranked the security of the southern border very low on his questionable list of priorities, border states like New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas have suffered greatly.
It will be interesting to see if other border states will follow Governor Abbott’s lead and erect their own walls. With the President abdicating his duties on the national level, a state-centered approach may prove to be the only viable solution to the problem in the short term.
