(DailyVantage.com) – House Democrats created quite a raucous after the resolution to censure and investigate Representative Adam Schiff, D-Calif., passed on June 21, chanting to prevent House Speaker Kevin McCarthy from reading the details of the measure following the vote.
They began by shouting “Shame, shame, shame” over and over, with the occasional one-liner from the most outspoken members of the Party. Speaker McCarthy told the rowdy crowd, “I have all night,” seemingly unbothered by their attempts to disrupt the process.
Most Democrats rallied around the California congressman as he stood to face his punishment, but others, especially the elders in the Party, tried to convince their colleagues to return to order. Republicans applauded the success after the vote, with Indiana Representative Jim Banks tweeting, “I’ve never taken an easier vote in my life,” and others highlighting many reasons why they believed Schiff deserved to be censured. This action is the second reprimand the Republicans have slapped onto Schiff since the 118th Congress began, with Speaker McCarthy removing him from his position on the House Intelligence Committee in January.
Rep. Schiff is likely to be the next U.S. Senator for the state of California, as he is the front-runner in the race to win retiring Senator Dianne Feinstein’s seat. So far, two other House Democrats have announced their bid for the seat, and it remains unclear if Schiff’s censuring will have any effect on his chances of graduating to the upper chamber. The resolution also included a House Ethics Committee investigation into his actions, which could put a damper on his senatorial aspirations.
Republicans and their voters have long awaited accountability for Schiff’s actions which many believe were the cause of furthering division in the country.
He spent countless hours on television claiming that he had irrefutable evidence that then-President Donald Trump was colluding with Russia and doing the bidding of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Schiff never revealed the evidence he claimed to have and continues to repeat the same accusations to this day.
