(DailyVantage.com) – Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is under fire after a video emerged of him dancing at a Taylor Swift concert in Toronto on the same night violent protests erupted in his home district of Montreal.
The footage, which quickly went viral on social media, shows Trudeau singing and dancing to “You Don’t Own Me” as he awaited Swift’s performance. Meanwhile, in Montreal, anti-NATO and pro-Palestinian demonstrators wreaked havoc, setting cars ablaze, clashing with police, and burning an effigy of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The protests, marked by smoke bombs and small explosive devices, caused significant chaos and injuries among officers.
Critics wasted no time drawing comparisons between Trudeau and Nero, the Roman emperor who famously “fiddled while Rome burned.” Don Stewart, a Member of Parliament from Toronto, blasted Trudeau in a post on X (formerly Twitter):
“Lawless protesters run roughshod over Montreal in violent protest. The Prime Minister dances,” Stewart wrote. Trudeau, whose district includes part of Montreal, denounced the protests the following day, calling them “appalling” and condemning acts of violence and antisemitism.
The timing of Trudeau’s concert attendance has sparked widespread outrage, with many questioning his priorities. Toronto, where the concert took place, is over 300 miles from Montreal. Critics argued that his absence during the crisis undermined his leadership, especially as his government faces growing pressure to restore law and order.
While Trudeau condemned the violence, the image of him enjoying a concert amid chaos in his home district has fueled dissatisfaction among Canadians, adding to the challenges facing his leadership.
