(DailyVantage.com) – Donald Trump recently made comments about Chris Christie, mocking the former New Jersey Governor’s weight. Trump made the comments just hours after Christie announced his intention to run for president in 2024, becoming the latest Republican hopeful that Trump must contend with for the nomination.
Christie’s name has been brought up frequently in relation to potential candidates for the 2024 election, but nothing was confirmed until he formally announced his campaign following his filing of the FEC paperwork required to run for office. Trump’s comments repeatedly mocked Christie’s weight, claiming he had a “size” problem and that the former governor had a psychological issue with the word “small”.
Christie isn’t the first Republican candidate that Trump has slammed with insults, as Trump also took shots at Ron DeSantis following his campaign announcement in May 2023. Interestingly, Christie was the first Republican to drop out of the 2016 election and endorse Donald Trump. Despite this past support it seems like Christie is trying again, likely due to the ongoing issues Trump will be facing during the primary season.
Christie has been overwhelmingly critical of Trump and Obama in the past, even going so far as to accuse Trump of being “Putin’s puppet”. Christie made the comments following Trump’s heavily criticized CNN Town Hall, which drew the ire of many citizens who viewed it. Despite this Christie has remained focused on his own campaign, only commenting on Donald Trump when asked to by other people.
Christie isn’t the only Republican candidate to be at odds with Trump, as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is currently embroiled in an ongoing feud with the former president. Trump and DeSantis have constantly traded blows on various social media platforms, criticizing one another and outlining their perceived political flaws. Trump has even gone so far as to use insulting nicknames when referring to DeSantis, marking a steep departure from his support for the governor earlier in 2023.
While the future of the Republican nomination isn’t clear, it’s apparent that the winner will likely face criticism from within his own party during the 2024 election season.
