(DailyVantage.com) – On Monday former President Donald Trump took to his social media platform Truth Social to go after television personality Don Lemon amid his firing from CNN.
Trump, per usual, did not hold back. In a Truth post, he called Lemon “the dumbest man on television”. Trump went on to call CNN “fake news” and questioned why it took the network so long to fire Lemon.
This, however, is not the former President’s first time insulting Lemon’s intelligence. In 2017, Trump referred to Lemon as “the dumbest man on television” for the first time. And in 2020, he said that he was “not a smart person”. So, it’s safe to say that Trump was never much of a fan.
News broke on Monday that Lemon had been let go from CNN, where he had been a host for the last 17 years.
On Twitter, the erstwhile host of ‘Don Lemon Tonight’ wrote that he was “stunned” by the development.
Lemon stoked media speculation even further when he suggested that “there are larger issues at play”. What exactly he is referring to is unclear.
Ever since Lemon was demoted to the morning slot in September of 2022, his position at the network seemed rather tenuous. Though the move from a primetime slot to an early morning gig was a clear demotion, Lemon insisted that it wasn’t. “This is an opportunity”, he said, “this is a promotion”. Lemon, though, was obviously deluding himself. The ratings for ‘Don Lemon Tonight’ had been declining precipitously and it was clear that the network had to make a change.
Lemon’s latest controversy happened in February of this year when he said that GOP Presidential hopeful Nikki Haley “is not in her prime”, following her call for “mental competency tests” for older politicians.
Afterwards Lemon apologized for his remarks and was ordered to undergo formal sensitivity training.
