(DailyVantage.com) – Since the Harris-Walz ticket was formed, there’s been a noticeable contrast in media appearances compared to the Trump-Vance campaign. While Trump and his running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance, have participated in 39 interviews, the Democratic candidates have only given six unscripted interviews to date.
Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz ended a media silence last week, sitting down with CNN’s Dana Bash in Georgia for a widely anticipated interview. This was Harris’s first interview since naming Walz as her running mate on August 6. In contrast, Trump and Vance have been much more accessible, giving interviews across various platforms, including Fox News, NBC, Univision, and even independent podcasters like Lex Fridman.
Trump’s media schedule has been packed, featuring appearances with well-known figures like Dr. Phil and Elon Musk. He’s spoken to outlets from Fox News to local stations, showing his usual willingness to engage both conservative and mainstream media.
Meanwhile, JD Vance has also kept up a high profile, making appearances on “Fox & Friends,” CNN’s “State of the Union,” CBS’ “Face the Nation,” and several regional outlets. Vance has been vocal about Harris’s reluctance to engage with the press, calling her “terrified” of facing hard questions.
Walz has had fewer media interactions but recently spoke with a few local radio stations, focusing on campaign issues. His avoidance of reporters earlier this week at the Minnesota State Fair drew criticism, especially after questions about recent hostages killed in Gaza.
As both campaigns head into the debate on September 10, hosted by ABC News, the contrast in media strategy remains a point of interest, with Trump and Vance making themselves far more available to the public compared to their Democratic counterparts.
