(DailyVantage.com) – According to a number of new polls available on Real Clear Politics, former President Donald Trump appears to be widening his margins.
An Emerson poll released on Tuesday has the 45th President a whopping 30 points ahead of the pack. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who has not yet announced a bid for the White House, is a distant second. The rest of the GOP field trails far behind.
Former Trump U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, who just recently declared her candidacy, polls at only 5%.
Entrepreneur and speaker Vivek Ramaswamy, who announced his bid for the Republican nomination on Tucker Carlson’s show a few days back, has yet to qualify for a poll.
According to the Real Clear Politics Republican primary averages, Trump stands at 45.2%. DeSantis trails him with 29.2%.
A newly released Fox News survey has Trump with a more modest lead: 15 points in front of DeSantis.
Whatever the case, it is clear that predictions that Trump would fade into the background were dead wrong.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), along with a cast of other Senate Republicans, had prognosticated that Trump’s grasp on the GOP electorate would wane. McConnell, though, was sorely mistaken.
Trump’s impressive poll numbers have shocked some GOP strategists who envisioned a DeSantis-controlled Republican Party. Republican strategist Vin Weber told The Hill, “I think Trump’s position is stronger than I thought it was.”
Trump, knowing full well that his influence has not diminished, routinely takes to Truth Social to tout his polling numbers. On Tuesday Trump truthed that “Great numbers are springing forth for your favorite president…” He goes on to refer to Ron DeSantis as Ron DeSanctus, accusing him of wanting to cut Social Security benefits.
Trump’s plan of action against DeSantis: tie him to Paul Ryan and the GOP establishment.
