Trump’s Popularity Rises, Harris’s Drops in Latest Poll

(DailyVantage.com) – Former President Donald Trump’s favorability is on the rise, while Vice President Kamala Harris’s favorability continues to trend negatively, according to a Gallup poll released on Wednesday. The poll indicates that Trump is gaining momentum during crucial months leading up to Election Day, while Harris’s support appears to be waning after her initial “honeymoon” phase following her replacement of President Joe Biden on the Democratic ticket.

According to the Gallup poll:

  • Trump’s favorability has increased by five points since August, now at 46 percent, while his unfavorable rating has decreased slightly to 53 percent.
  • Harris’s favorability has dropped three points since August to 44 percent, with her unfavorable rating rising to 54 percent, up by five points.
  • Among independents, Trump holds a significant advantage over Harris, with a favorability rating of 44-53 percent (net: -9) compared to Harris’s 35-60 percent (net: -25).

The polling suggests that Trump is outperforming his ratings from the 2016 and 2020 campaigns, with Gallup noting that he is currently viewed more favorably than he was at similar points in those election cycles. In contrast, Harris’s ratings are comparable to President Biden’s in 2020 but are notably better than Hillary Clinton’s in 2016. Historically, only a few candidates, including George H.W. Bush in 1992 and Mitt Romney in 2012, have had a favorable score of less than 50 percent at this stage in their campaigns.

The latest poll, conducted from September 3-15, 2024, shows nearly identical favorability ratings for both candidates, with Trump at 46 percent and Harris at 44 percent. Despite these close figures, both candidates still have higher unfavorable ratings, with Trump’s unfavorable score seven points above his favorable score and Harris’s 10 points higher.

Harris initially saw a bump in her favorability after unexpectedly securing the Democratic nomination, but this boost has since leveled off. Meanwhile, Trump’s favorability has rebounded by five points since August, returning to levels similar to those seen earlier in the summer.

The poll sampled 1,007 Americans during the specified period and has a margin of error of ± four percent, underscoring the increasingly competitive nature of the race as both candidates prepare for the final stretch before Election Day.
