(DailyVantage.com) – Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) took aim at ABC News host Martha Raddatz during a weekend interview for downplaying the severity of illegal alien crime in the U.S. The heated exchange occurred on Sunday during an episode of This Week, when Raddatz suggested that it wasn’t a major issue that “a handful of apartment complexes” had been taken over by gangs from Venezuela.
Raddatz tried to interrupt Vance, saying, “The incidents were limited to a handful of apartment complexes, and the mayor said our police officers have acted on those concerns. A handful of problems.”
Vance was quick to push back. “Martha, do you hear yourself?” he responded. “Only a handful of apartment complexes in America were taken over by Venezuelan gangs, and Donald Trump is the problem, and not Kamala Harris’s open border?”
His frustration was clear. “Americans are fed up with what’s going on, and they have every right to be,” Vance added, criticizing what he saw as a focus on nitpicking Donald Trump instead of addressing the real issue of rising crime. He argued that the growing presence of violent gangs should be the focus, not political gamesmanship.
Vance emphasized that the safety of the country should be a top priority, and that the current border crisis was contributing to this crime wave. “When you let people in by the millions, most of whom are unvetted… you’re going to have problems like this,” he explained, blaming the Biden administration’s policies for reversing Trump’s successful border strategies. He specifically pointed to Vice President Kamala Harris’s role, mentioning her executive orders as a key factor behind the crisis.
After the interview, Vance shared his reaction on social media, posting on X (formerly Twitter): “When your town is overrun with violent criminal gangs, Kamala Harris and her friends will say, ‘well, it’s only a handful of apartment complexes’ that have been overrun by illegal gangs.”
He closed his statement with a firm stance: “The only acceptable number of American apartments overrun by criminal gangs is zero.”
