(DailyVantage.com) – Speaking to a crowd in Sanford, North Carolina, Republican vice presidential candidate Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, criticized Vice President Kamala Harris, questioning her ability to lead on the global stage if she avoids even the “friendly American media.” Recalling a recent conversation with his running mate, former President Donald Trump, Vance noted that the former president’s response to a second assassination attempt demonstrated his resilience. Vance recounted, “After the incident, President Trump told me what had just happened. I asked if he was okay, knowing how traumatic these threats can be, but he simply shrugged it off, joking that he was more upset about not being allowed to finish his round of golf.” Vance emphasized that this type of unflappability is critical in a leader facing crises.
Vance then contrasted Trump’s calm demeanor with Harris’s reluctance to engage in challenging media appearances, asserting that a candidate who avoids tough questions from the American press cannot be trusted to negotiate with adversarial global leaders like Vladimir Putin or Xi Jinping. “Kamala Harris dodges even friendly questions from American media. Can we expect her to stand up for America in tough negotiations with foreign powers? The answer is clearly no,” Vance said.
The Ohio senator also pointed to Harris’s recent appearance on The View, where she was asked if she would have handled anything differently in the past four years of the Biden administration. When Harris answered, “Nothing comes to mind,” Vance said her response was a “gift” to the Trump campaign. “It’s baffling,” he continued. “How does she plan to address the same issues that have spiraled under her leadership if she thinks nothing needed changing?”
Vance pointed out that when Harris does give interviews, even in softball settings, her responses sometimes accidentally reveal too much. “She has these scripted lines about what she’s going to do in the next term, but when asked straightforward questions, she often falters,” Vance said. “Her ‘gaffes’ are usually moments when she accidentally tells the truth, and the truth isn’t flattering for her record.”
Concluding his speech, Vance summarized the choice he believes North Carolinians face. “It’s a choice between more of the same—high prices, housing that’s out of reach, open borders, and the rise of fentanyl in our communities—or taking this country in a new direction.” He added, “We need the leadership of Donald J. Trump to bring back peace and prosperity, not the same policies that brought us to this point.”
