White House Claims GOP Push To Impeach Mayorkas Is Unconstitutional

(DailyVantage.com) – House Republicans are on an impeachment roll. With their hands seemingly not full yet with the inquiry into Hunter Biden’s shady foreign business dealings and how those dealings could prompt an impeachment of his father, President Joe Biden, GOP members in Congress have added another target to their list: Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

Led by House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman and Republican Tennessee Representative Mark Green, GOP members in Congress have accused Mayorkas of “egregious misconduct” as well as “failure to fulfill his oath of office”, which they say warrants impeachment. If House Republicans succeed, Mayorkas will be the first cabinet secretary to get the boot in close to a century and a half.

According to Green, Mayorkas’ handling of the crisis at the border – the seemingly endless flow of migrants looking to enter the United States – endangers all Americans. A recent hearing had House Republicans hear testimony from Tammy Nobles, who lost her daughter to a member of the notorious MS-13 Mexican street gang. House Republicans claim that President Biden’s border policies – enforced by Mayorkas – have adversely affected the lives of Americans who live close to the U.S-Mexico border.

The White House has balked at the accusations against the president and the DHS secretary, saying that the impeachment proceedings in the House are unconstitutional.

Ian Sams, who serves as the White House oversight spokesperson, issued a memo calling the actions of House Republicans against Mayorkas a “stunt” and a “blatant disregard” of the Constitution. Sams cited a number of legal experts who have expressed doubt at the legitimacy of Mayorkas’ impeachment proceedings such as Jonathan Turley, a legal scholar and conservative commentator, who wrote recently saying that the GOP does not have enough evidence to impeach Mayorkas.

Sams acknowledged that the U.S.’ immigration system “has been broken for decades”, but slammed Republicans such as Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene for choosing to shun bipartisan efforts to come up with solutions and instead pursue a “baseless impeachment stunt.”
