Xi Warns Biden Not To Play With Fire Regarding Taiwan, Says Official

China’s President Threatened Biden in Private Meeting

(DailyVantage.com) – To say tensions have been rising between the United States and China would be an understatement. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine seems only to have exacerbated the situation, as the US keeps a watchful eye on the communist country’s actions toward Taiwan. A recent phone call between Presidents Joe Biden and Xi Jinping apparently led to some contentious conversation.

The two leaders spoke on the phone on Thursday, July 28, for more than two hours. During the discussion, Taiwan was a hot-button topic. According to a White House press briefing on the matter, Biden reaffirmed that the United States hasn’t changed its position regarding the island.

The president reportedly told the Chinese leader the US stands by its “commitment to the maintenance of peace and stability” in the region. According to Fox News, Xi responded with a firm message “Those who play with fire will perish by it.”

US officials have yet to confirm that statement, but tensions with China have increased lately, especially with rumors of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) scheduled visit to Taiwan next month. In fact, Beijing warned there would be “forceful measures” taken should Pelosi make the trip. The US military is against the visit but said it was preparing to ensure her safety.

Pelosi has yet to confirm whether she will visit Taipei.
