700 Chinese Immigrants Caught at Border in Over a Week

(DailyVantage.com) – Migrants from China have become by far the biggest group of people attempting to enter the country, with thousands of them attempting to cross into the U.S. illegally, Fox News reported, citing sources inside the Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

According to the news outlet’s sources, the CBP has recorded encounters with as many as 6,500 individuals from China attempting to seek asylum in the U.S. Other major people groups encountered on the border include those from Uzbekistan (1,500), Syria (140), Afghanistan (700), and Iran (80).

The CBP also recorded as many as 1,000 “gotaways” — or people who have managed to evade border agents and successfully cross into the U.S. illegally — in a single month. According to the Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, there were roughly 600,000 gotaways for the 2023 fiscal year.

A CBS 60 Minutes report shows a video of several Chinese immigrants crossing into the U.S. illegally utilizing a four-foot gap at the end of a border wall in San Diego, California, with some even throwing away their passports, ostensibly in an attempt to fudge their identities. The news team also reported that an armed Border Patrol agent was standing nearby and did nothing to stop the illegal entry.

The report also showed SUVs belonging to human smuggler’s syndicate driving by and routinely dropping off people at the same spot. The CBS news team said that through the course of their coverage, around 600 people were able to cross into the U.S. illegally and undeterred by Border Patrol agents.

According to the report, Chinese nationals pay around $14,000 to cover the cost of getting to America, which includes regular travel fares and roughly $400 per person paid to human smugglers in Mexico. The Chinese nationals said that they became aware of the particular gap in the border wall through Tiktok.
