Reporter Claims Trump Stared at Her Post-Sleep Report

(DailyVantage.com) – A reporter for the New York Times said that former president Donald Trump “glared” at her after she live-blogged on the news outlet’s website that Trump appeared to be falling asleep during proceedings in his “hush money” trial.

On the NY Times’ live blog of the Trump trial proceedings, Maggie Haberman wrote that the former president seemed to “nod off” to sleep several times, adding that Trump’s mouth appeared to be going “slack and his head drooping onto his chest.”

After a few moments, Haberman wrote further that Trump appeared to have perked back up, having noticed several notes that his legal counsel had passed him some time ago.

In the press pool report, Frank Runyeon, a reporter for Law360, wrote that during a break, just after staring at the exiting jurors, Trump reportedly glared at Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, then “turned his eyes to the press pool.” He then turned his glare towards Haberman, eyeing her for “several seconds” before leaving the room.

Haberman spoke about the encounter in an interview with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, telling the news anchor that “he [Trump] made a pretty specific stare at me.”

Haberman also said that people falling asleep during a trial is a common occurrence. However, given that Trump was a “criminal defendant in a case,” his nodding off warranted reportage. The NY Times scribe also noted that while in general, “he [Trump] doesn’t like when such things are reported,” she said she does not know for sure why he stared at her specifically.

Trump’s hush money trial began on April 15 with jury selection. The proceedings mark the first time a former U.S. president has been subject to a criminal trial. Trump has been charged with 34 counts of falsification of documents in relation to his alleged $130,000 payoff of former adult actress Stormy Daniels. Prosecutors allege that Trump attempted to cover up an alleged affair he had with Daniels in 2006, as the revelations could negatively impact his then-presidential run in 2016. The money was supposedly a payment for Daniels to keep silent about the alleged relationship.
