Rep. Cammack to Propose Ban on Foreign Flags in House Floor

(DailyVantage.com) – A Republican representative is looking to introduce a measure that would prohibit the display of all foreign flags in Congress.

Representative Kat Cammack from Florida says that she is planning to introduce legislation to make it so that only the American flag can be displayed on the House Floor. The move is ostensibly a reaction to Democrats waving small flags of Ukraine after the passage of a $61 billion foreign aid package for the besieged former Soviet-bloc nation.

In a post on Twitter/X, Rep. Cammack said that seeing foreign flags being waved in Congress “infuriated me.”

“If there is one room in our country that should only have the American flag present, it is this room [House floor].”

Other Republicans seconded Cammack’s sentiments, with fellow Republican Florida Representative Anna Paulina Luna saying on Twitter that the use of foreign flags on the House floor was a “disgrace.” “Put those damn flags away,” her tweet said.

Another Republican from Florida, Matt Gaetz, called the Democrats’ display “disgusting.”

Democrats and Republicans have clashed on the issue of foreign aid — with Democrats insisting that the U.S. continue to support Ukraine, which is still fighting off an invasion from Russia. Republicans, on the other hand, favor more support for Israel, a position opposed by several prominent Democrats, who allege that Israel has and is committing human rights crimes in its war with the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas.

Many conservatives in Congress have also taken issue with what is the liberals’ seemingly cavalier approach to the migrant crisis at the U.S. southern border, with many would-be migrants abusing the U.S. asylum policy and even crossing into the country illegally.

The issue of foreign flags in Congress is not new, however. Democratic Michigan Representative Rashida Tlaib has been criticized for displaying the Palestinian flag following Hamas’ devastating October 7, 2023, attacks on Israel that saw more than 1,200 people – a great majority of them civilians, including women and children – killed. Tlaib is of Palestinian descent, and the flag she uses has some slight differences from the one used by Hamas.
