(DailyVantage.com) – The United States Border Patrol has been encountering a record number of immigrants at the southern U.S. border over the past few days, with over 10,000 immigrants crossing daily. In fact, this week set the record for the highest daily encounters with illegal immigrants in Border Patrol history.
The reasoning for this surge in immigrants is due to the upcoming end of Title 42, which allowed for authorities to expel immigrants due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic, which has been officially declared as over. While waiting for Title 42 to come to an end, migrants at the border have set up tent cities, presumably to make the crossing into the United States once Border Patrol isn’t capable of expelling as many immigrants as before.
The decision to end Title 42 comes after years of the Biden administration refusing to acknowledge the ongoing border crisis. White House Press Secretaries Jen Psaki and Karine Jean-Pierre both have adamantly denied the ongoing influx of immigration being a problem, but apparently in private the Biden administration has a different view. According to an anonymous staffer within the White House, Biden had multiple incidents of exploding at staff about the inaction at the southern U.S. border. This flip-flop on policy is hardly surprising, as the Democratic Party has a party-wide issue with policies due to the political ideological range of its members.
One such example can be found in analyzing outgoing Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s response to immigrants surging into her city. Lightfoot famously declared Chicago a “sanctuary city,” meaning that immigrants would be welcome with open arms and not face the possibility of deportation. However, upon having a large number of illegal immigrants arrive in her city. Lightfood had a state of emergency declared to brace for the upcoming end of Title 42. Despite the political stance of not hindering the influx of illegal immigrants, Chicago sees their imminent arrival as an emergency. While the effects of Title 42 ending aren’t fully known yet, it’s apparent that many states and cities are already bracing for a massive wave of illegal immigrants.
