(DailyVantage.com) – Former President Donald Trump, as per usual, does not appear to be pulling any punches against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who has not yet declared his candidacy for 2024.
Trump, in his first Iowa speech of the campaign trail on Monday, mercilessly attacked DeSantis, calling him a “RINO” and equating him with Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney, both of whom are considered to be “neoconservatives” by MAGA-types.
The former President also declared that DeSantis, if elected, would cut entitlement programs like Medicare and Social Security.
President Biden, during his now infamous State of the Union Address in February, accused certain Republicans of wanting to “sunset” the two entitlement programs. The assertion was met with moans and groans from Congressional Republicans. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, notoriously, yelled “liar!” from the back of the chamber. Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) was subsequently attacked by the left for his 12-point plan which, if enacted, would require congressional action every five years to renew Medicare and Social Security.
Trump, though, has made it clear that he has no intentions of cutting the programs. Rather, he plans on leveraging Biden and the Democrat’s attacks against DeSantis. “You have to remember”, Trump said, “Ron was a disciple of Paul Ryan, who is a RINO loser who currently is destroying FOX and would constantly vote against entitlements.”
Attacking DeSantis has become a regular occurrence for the 45th President. On Monday, he took to Truth Social to post a scathing video wherein he claimed that “Florida was doing great long before Ron DeSanctus got there.” People are moving to Florida from liberal states, Trump argued, not because DeSantis is a good governor, but because taxes and crime-rates are so bad in states like New York and California.
As of now, Trump is dominating the 2024 GOP field. The latest I&I/TIPP poll has him leading DeSantis by a whopping 29-points.
