(DailyVantage.com) – Former New Jersey Governor and failed Presidential candidate Chris Christie is, once again, lobbing attacks as the 45th President.
Christie, who ran for President in 2016 and then subsequently became a member of Trump’s transition team once elected, has since become a harsh critic of the former President.
At an annual meeting of Republican Governors in 2022, for example, Christie, in reference to the mediocre midterm elections, blamed Trump and Trump-backed candidates for the losses around the country, saying that voters “rejected crazy”.
More recently, though, Christie took shots at Trump during a town hall at Saint Anselm College. The former embattled New Jersey Governor declared that Trump’s “end will not be a calm and quiet conclusion”.
Christie seems to have been making a veiled attack at Trump for the Jan. 6 protests, as well as his overall bombastic nature.
He also gave Trump’s GOP challengers some words of advice: “You better have somebody on that stage who could do to him what I did to Marco Rubio…You have to be fearless because he will come back and right at you.”
Christie is, of course, referring to a moment during the 2016 GOP primary debates where he got the better of Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), causing him to repeat himself in a frazzled manner.
Christie, in making these remarks and touring the country (including some key battleground states), looks to be eyeing a run for the presidency himself. Though, up until very recently, he was not one of the top names to be floated as a potential Trump challenger in 2024.
As things stand, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is the only Republican to pose a real threat to Trump’s clinching of the nomination. As of late, though, his numbers have been slipping precipitously. Trump, by all accounts, looks to be running away with the nomination. A Christie candidacy, however, may very well shake things up.
