(DailyVantage.com) – The struggle continues between the federal government headed by President Joe Biden, Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott, and the state of Texas over the enforcement of border policies and security initiatives at the U.S.–Mexico border.
The federal government was recently dealt a blow by the Southern District Court of Texas, which issued a temporary injunction over the White House’s attempts to divert roughly $1.4 billion in funds Congress allotted for the construction of walls along the U.S. – Mexico border. The funding measure was approved during the administration of former President Donald Trump.
According to U.S. District Judge Drew Tipton, a Trump appointee, the “spending decisions” of the Biden administration “run afoul” of administrative law. He also rejected the notion that the federal government has the authority to determine how the money should be spent. The judge also said that Texas was able to prove that additional border walls have been effective in cutting down the number of illegal aliens.
Ken Paxton, the Texas Attorney General, lauded the court’s decision, saying the Biden administration displays a “desperation for open borders at any cost.”
However, “Texas has prevailed,” he said.
Paxton also scolded the president for attempting to divert the funds and deny Texas the already Congressionally-approved monies to build more border walls, saying that “Biden acted completely improperly.”
The Biden administration and the state leadership of Texas have been locked in legal battles over border matters essentially since the president began his tenure in the White House. Governor Abbott and Texas AG Paxton have repeatedly sued the federal government, alleging that the Biden administration is attempting to create an open border policy for the U.S. They claim that the president’s lax policies on immigration are a source of encouragement for migrants to cross into the U.S. illegally. Former president Donald Trump was known for his much stricter immigration policies, but Biden reversed the majority of them when he assumed office.
