Fact-Check FAIL – Harris Gets Schooled!

(DailyVantage.com) – CNN commentator Scott Jennings slammed Vice President Kamala Harris for her disingenuous attack against Florida’s social studies curriculum. A new standard in the curriculum says that instruction in the state must include “how slaves developed skills that, in some instances, could be applied for their personal benefit,” which Harris described as extremist. She framed it as if the curriculum would require that Florida students be taught that “enslaved people benefited from slavery.”

Harris’ remarks were a stretch, which is why Jennings countered her narrative by demonstrating that the curriculum had the backing of African-American scholars and included no positive characterization of slavery. He suggested the Vice President’s move to attack Florida was fabricated and lacked merit, and it was probably politically motivated against Florida Governor and Republican 2024 presidential candidate Ron DeSantis.

DeSantis currently stands at 18.9% in the aggregate polling on FiveThirtyEight, making him the runner-up compared to former President Trump at about 51.0%. Also in the field are entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy at 6.4% and former Vice President Mike Pence at 6.3%. All of the other candidates are currently below 5%.

Harris’s political move against DeSantis may be an attempt to increase her popularity. Currently, she has a disapproval rating of 51.2% and an approval rating of 40.2%, meaning that the majority of Americans dislike her, including several Democratic elected officials. Since DeSantis is a prominent Republican, it could very well boost Harris’ polling among Democrats and make her more visible than she has before. However, some of her public appearances have led to criticism, particularly about her habit of speaking in “word salad.” For Harris to regain public approval, she will need to be careful with her messages and the words she delivers.

As the 2024 general election gradually approaches, further political moves on the part of both Harris and President Joe Biden against Republicans will likely increase as they seek re-election.
